Education and Awards
Dr. James Segulyev was raised in Washington and Oregon State. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Oregon in Eugene, after which he attended The University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco, California. While a student there, he received awards for Excellence in Fixed Prosthodontics (dental crowns and bridges) and was the class recipient of the prestigious San Francisco Dental Society Award for Ethics and Professionalism. Dr. James became a dentist to help people live a better life and have a more fulfilling future through better dental health.
Dr. James believes in providing his patients with customized and individualized dental care based on dental wellness and longevity. He is an advocate of teaching people how to master their own dental health for themselves, as opposed to just treating symptoms and problems, thus giving real control to patients where it belongs. His approach is health-centered, taking the whole person into consideration, and the practice is patient-focused, where ample time is taken to develop a relationship with the purpose of understanding and pursuing the patient’s dental health goals.
A lifelong student, Dr. James regularly attends many continuing education courses during the year with special interest in treatment of complex dental problems, TMJ disorders, tooth wear and cosmetic dentistry. He enjoys helping people with issues ranging from simple preventive and restorative care to more complicated dental issues, such as full mouth reconstructions. Furthermore, Dr. James believes in finding and treating the cause of dental disease rather than solely treating the symptoms. In 2010 he completed the curriculum of study at The Spear Institute for Advanced Dental Education, generally regarded as one of the premiere post-graduate comprehensive dental training experiences in the world. In February 2016, Dr. James was among the first to have completed a two-year long curriculum at The Texas Center for Occlusal Studies and Minimally Invasive Dentistry.
Dr. James and team completed a one and half year long program in The Dental Practice Management Program at The Schuster Center for Professional Development in 2014. The learning included refinement of our practice vision, mission and philosophy to better serve our patients. Dr. James is currently involved in the Schuster Performance Coach program, consisting of a community of dentists dedicated to the pursuit of the private care dental practice, where patients are treated one at a time, rather than on an assembly line.
